Welcome to Yellow Tick
Intersex variations
Intersex variations are innate differences in sex characteristics (including chromosomes, gonads, sex hormones or genitals) that do not fit the typical definitions for male or female bodies.
Intersex people have a diversity of bodies and identities, and preferences for language. On these pages we’ll often use the term ‘innate variations of sex characteristics’, or ‘IVSCs’.
People with innate variations routinely encounter discrimination, ignorance, and rejection and are often treated as invisible or as having a disorder. Children with innate variations are sometimes subject to unnecessary, irreversible medical procedures before they can personally consent
Yellow Tick
Yellow Tick is a community-led initiative that assists groups to develop intersex inclusive and affirmative practices for programs, clients and staff.
We provide three training modules: Awareness, Allyship and Action that can be delivered via eLearning, webinar or face-to-face.
Participants can join our community of practice and special interest groups to extend their knowledge.
We can also partner with you to collaboratively review your policies, practices and documentation for you to become YellowTick endorsed.
The YellowTick Logo draws on the colours of the Intersex Flag and the logo of the Darlington Consortium. The three stylised hands represent the partnership between the Consortium, the trainer and the organisation or individual being trained.

Tailor your learning
Three training levels
Training is provided in three progressively more detailed modules (Awareness, Allyship and Action), Each module takes several hours to complete.
Three training modes
Organisations can chose between eLearning and guided (teleconference or in-person) small group training .
Multiple pathways (coming 2026)
At present a single pathway is available. We are working to develop multiple versions of each module tailored for different interest groups (eg health, education). Most content would only need to complete one of these.
Transform Your Practice
Organisations have several options to extend on training and
embed Intersex-awareness and responsiveness in policies and practice
Collaborative review
Organisations can complete a collaborative review of their policies and practices with guidance from a YellowTick facilitator. Successfully completing this review means an organisation is endorsed to use the YellowTick logo for 3 years.
Community of Practice
Participants completing the Allyship or Action modules are able to join our web-based community of practice and special interest groups.
Talk to us to about tailored support
I was surprised how much I learnt from this training . It challenged my lack of knowledge about a minority group which is much larger than I realised. Highly recommended.
SammieNurse (Aged care)
Training delivered with compassion by very knowledgeable trainers . Everything from the importance of appropriate language to the great diversity of lived experiences (some of them hugely traumatic and unjust) encompassed by the term ‘Intersex’
Aiden(Primary Teacher)
I’ve always seen myself as fairly knowledgeable about LGBTQI issues. This training really challenged that assumption. ‘I’ could just as easily stand for ‘invisible’ given the general lack of understanding and prejudice regarding people with intersex variations
